    THAT IT IS THE RELAXATION

    During very many time one has thought that to relax it consists simply of not using muscles, when in fact this single one is to rest or to sleep; whereas the metodos of relaxation that take to a true deep relaxation of muscles, can produce great changes, not only in our muscles, but also in our states of conscience and knowledge.


    The single fact of not moving, does not indicate necessarily that we are relaxed, but that perhaps in the best one of the cases than we are simply maintaining our system muscular in balance. (1)

     The reality is that we are not conscious of the magnitude of the muscular and cerebral effort that entails the single fact to maintain certain position.

    For example, when a new event takes us situation to a tension, that prepares us for the answers of fled fight and; our muscular system reacts this tension in front of, taking to look for a new muscular balance to us, at a level of superior tension.     Nowadays it can for that reason affirm that, to learn to control our muscular tension, it is our better defense against the numerous family of the psychosomatic diseases.

     It was indeed Jacobson that realized for the first time, that inmovilidad is not synonymous of relaxation, but that can be tense still at the moments of greater inmovilidad, like for example, the moment of the dream.

     What exhausts is not the tension, but the lack of relaxation (4)

    Single the maintenance of our balance between stress and relax through the use of good metodos of relaxation, allows the suitable rejuvenecimiento us of the body and the mind, that it makes possible to us to face to us soon new estresantes stimuli without injurious consequences for our health.

    We must understand, since the relaxation does not consist of the activity absence, but in a state in which our organism makes all a series of activities oriented towards our overcoming of stress; and therefore, when consisting of an activity, he is stepible of improvement with the practice, as it happens to any other exercise.

     Our natural states of relaxation and balance can be altered by the estresores (outer stimuli that cause stress) and stress (word of synonymous origin ingles of nervous tension) is the answer of our organism as opposed to these stimuli.

     The reestablishment of the internal balance altered by the stress states, is called "Syndrome of General Adaptation" (so it is the name given by the Dr Hans Selye) (5) and consists of three phases:

     The phase of alarm

     The phase of resistance

     The phase of the exhaustion

    One enters the phase of alarm when one defines to nobody I stimulate external like something negative, dangerous or detrimental (independently that really it is it or not).

    The phase of resistance also is known like stage of functional biological adaptation, and is constituted by all nonspecific the general reactions, caused by the action of the estresantes stimuli, before which the organism looks for some form of adaptation.

     The phase of exhaustion or submission, takes place when the effectiveness of the organism decays to control to the prolonged action of the estresantes factors.

    In agreement with observations of Dr Selye, as a rule, happens through two first stage, and single when these are not enough to solve our stress, he is that we entered the exhaustion, that is a state of physical fatigue and worsening of the individual, that if it extends during too much time, can even take to the loss of the life.

    We have said previously that the man like the rest of the animals, as opposed to comes to this prepared world biologically even two answers stress: the fight and the fled one; despite the man as rational animal has one third option that is the one to redefine the situation.

     Epícteto philosopher does already two thousand years observed that:

     Despite it is important to emphasize, that whichever it is the method which we use to face us stress (fights, fled, or redefinition), single the resulting relaxation of the use of good methods of relaxation, allows us to eliminate the desequilibrantes effects of stress.

     But the relaxation, although is the best form of fight against the injurious effects of stress, single eliminates its consequences, is to say that always a situation analysis is made necessary, to see to what extent we can avoid the incursion in new estresantes situations.
